The Palatinate Forest is pure nature with access to every conceivable activity and destination. It is located in a unique natural area, the German-French Palatinate Forest-Northern Vosges Biosphere Reserve.
Hikes along 12,000 km of marked trails – 150 km around Elmstein alone – are made even more enjoyable by the dense network of managed huts run by the Pfälzerwaldverein and Naturfreunde associations, as well as the numerous inns that welcome hikers and cyclists.
The Pfälzerwald Mountain Bike Park offers 900 km of marked trails for all levels of difficulty. Nordic walking, the healthiest trend sport of all time, can be practised here on hiking trails and even on special courses, with expert guidance if desired.
After burning so much energy, it's easy to decide to stop at one of the numerous inns and enjoy Palatinate specialities such as Handkäs or Leberknödeln (Lewerknepp).
The Pfälzerwald Centre website provides information about tourist highlights such as castles, museums, spas and wellness oases within the boundaries of this unique natural paradise.
Ein Ausflug an die Weinstraße mit ihren inzwischen weltberühmten Erzeugnissen oder ins nahegelegene Elsass bietet sich für jeden Gourmet an. Hier finden sich Spitzenrestaurants, die zu einem erstklassigen Mahl nicht weniger vorzügliche Weine ausschenken. Wer davon ein paar Flaschen mit nach Hause nehmen möchte, für den empfiehlt sich ein Besuch in einem der vielen Weingüter, die jedes Jahr wieder die begehrtesten Auszeichnungen für Ihre Weine erhalten.
Die Städte Kaiserslautern, Mannheim, Speyer, Karlsruhe und Straßburg sind alle in erreichbarer Nähe und laden zu einem Tagesausflug ein. Aber auch in unmittelbarer Nähe gibt es viele kulturelle und architektonische Highlights.
