Elmstein & More :
In Elmstein and its districts, there are many attractions, both large and small, right on your doorstep.
Even though most short-term visitors to Elmstein come for the forest, there are still a few other things to marvel at and experience. From Schwarzbach, the westernmost tip of the municipality of Elmstein, it is only a few minutes' walk to the House of Sustainability, the information centre for the biosphere reserve, which opened in 2005.
Changing exhibitions and events bring the topic of sustainability to life, and the modern architecture alone is worth a visit. The Kuckucksbähnel runs its historic locomotives and carriages along the Elmstein Valley Railway line. It's a journey through time for children of all ages.
The Alte Samenklenge – House of Forestry and Forest History provides an insight into the techniques of the timber industry and the lives of forest workers and their families. Visitors can also marvel at the machines and equipment used to produce tree seeds, which were in operation here until 2007. The Wappenschmiede shows the craftsmanship involved in making tools, not only for forestry work.
Alte Samenklenge – House of Forestry and Forest Management. In addition to topics that one might immediately associate with the forest, such as the work of foresters and hunting, lesser-known areas are also highlighted, such as the hard work of female forest workers and the poor living conditions of forest workers and their families.
With a little luck, you may be able to attend a concert on the historic Schlimbach organ in Elmstein's Church of the Visitation. The Helmbachweiher natural swimming pool is ideal for a lively splash or a few laps of breaststroke and backstroke.
A classic for young and old alike, mini golf in Elmstein is complemented by a pit-pat facility.
If you want to eat out in Elmstein and the surrounding area, you will find almost every type of restaurant, from hiking huts and traditional inns to creative cuisine. You don't have to go without fresh trout from local waters and game from our own hunt, or the legendary Palatinate Saumagen with cabbage.
Hiking on the Palatinate Way of St. James or taking an expert-guided tour of the historic cattle drives and the museum forest, hunting weeks organised by the forestry commission and fishing in the clear waters... no one will ever be bored here.
